"Passion is my driving force. I want people to feel that what I've craeted has integrity and that I've given everything to the expression of my art." - St. Amour |

Born in 1947 in Los Angeles, St. Amour has created sculptures for a total of 34 years. He inherited a rich creative legacy from his father, an innovator who developed a variety of patented inventions. Throughout his years of formal training in art, he sculpted in a variety of materials: stone, wood and clay, receiving acclaim for his work in each. As his work evolved, acrylic emerged as his heart's medium of choice. An avid photographer, St. Amour shoots as many as 300 rolls of film per year using his vast collection of cameras. He takes photos of people in their unique environment, particularly artists, and creates his art from whatever he imagines or perceives. "I bump into some interesting people...Certain people grab me. I feel their aura." This spiritual connection serves as the inspiration for his work. St. Amour believes Acrylic has the unique ability to let you see inside it with "open eyes and never a closed mind." The exceptional rendering of texture is another advantage of acrylic. "Texture is really the doorway to detail and the window to the soul." The "ethereal" quality of acrylic takes basic design elements - shapes, figures, and visual elements - and gives his sculptures action, movement and emotion. The word "Ethereal" actually means light, airy, or tenuous: extremely delicate or refined; heavenly or celestial. These words perfectly describe St. Amour's work. |
