Maurice Meyer has made a striking impact on the world of seascape art for the past thirty years. In colorful sunsets, brilliant moonlight and soft daylight scenes he captures the beauty, spirit and rhythmic power of the Hawaiian and California coastlines. The eye travels miles into a Meyer painting drawn by the unique technique of layers of paint creating distance and perspective. A sandy shore turns into a patterned array of ocean foam, giving way to soft, translucent breakers folding onto the beach, then powerful waves, and finally into the calm, smooth distant ocean horizon. The majestic mountains or waterfalls of the landscapes create the mystical feeling of being part of a painting. The soft, yet breathtaking colors appear to glow, and his paintings seem to light up the canvas. These paintings continue to explore the style Maurice calls "Traditional Realism." The viewer finds focused composition combined with a wonderful use of color, great attention to detail and great depth in all his paintings. His favorite subjects are warm, glowing sunsets and cool seascapes of Hawaii and California. Former President Richard M. Nixon, Bob Hope, Efrim Zimbalist Jr., Greg Harris (of the Boston Red Sox), The Governor of Guam and Transworld Insurance Company are among his many well-known collectors. He has been commissioned to paint for clients in countries around the world including Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Mexico and Singapore. Meyer studied at the Memphis Art Academy and continued his training to perfect landscape and seascape painting. After viewing the paintings of Rembrandt at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Maurice was tremendously influenced by the Master's use of highlights, contrasted by dark masses of complimentary hues. He perfected similar techniques in his paintings, and became known among his peers as the "Rembrandt of Seascapes." Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1936, Maurice now lives in Southern California with his wife and family. For the past thirty years, Fine Art galleries throughout the world have sold every painting that Maurice Meyer has created. |
